Owe no one anything, except to love each other, for the one who loves another has fulfilled the law
Romans 13:8
Rating: PG (For action/peril and a few eerie moments)
Our Household Rating: PP (Parent Pick) – This is the enchanting tale we fondly remember from our childhood, but be aware, the live-action rendition has added a pinch more spice with intense scenes that might be a tad much for our littlest ones.
⚔️ Diving into the World of Movie Violence with 22:6 Flix: There is a scene where a shark is chasing Ariel and Flounder. There are some close calls for Flounder. Additionally, scenes involving Ursula can be quite intense.
🔊 Deciphering Language in Family Films: Mild to Moderate: The language radiates the innocence of phrases children might echo in playgrounds, like “Oh my gosh!” or “Darn it.” Yet, when Ursula comes into play, she doesn’t hesitate to call Ariel a “little brat” and dishes out her lines with a dash of sarcasm.
❤️ Navigating Romance in Our Film Selections: Mild to Moderate: The movie captures those sweet, heartwarming gestures – reminiscent of little notes exchanged in class or those stolen glances during a play. The budding feelings of first love come alive with blushes and butterfly-filled moments, drawing parallels to classics like Anne of Green Gables. And yes, there’s a kiss! The anticipation for Prince Eric and Ariel to seal their feelings with a kiss is constant in the latter part of the story.
👻 Spooky Elements: Thrills vs. Chills: Intense: Prepare for some edge-of-the-seat moments, especially when the mysterious ambiance of the dark ocean reveals its secrets. Primarily, Ursula’s scenes stand out as eerie. Ariel’s initial encounter with Ursula’s lair is especially harrowing as she’s accosted by malevolent sea creatures. Most interactions with Ursula ooze spookiness, punctuated by her sinister spells and ominous imagery.
First Impressions:
There’s something magical about introducing our children to stories we loved when we were their age. This live-action version has beautifully brought the beloved Little Mermaid to life. It tugs at the heartstrings, reminding us of Ariel’s dreamy desires, the world above the sea, and the rollercoaster of emotions that come with young love and discovery.
In A Nutshell:
Prepare to dive deep into a splendid blend of comedy, love, and a dash of suspense. So, let’s create new memories with our kids, wrap up in a cozy blanket, and dive into the mesmerizing world of the Live Action Little Mermaid.
Pearls of Wisdom:
- Lesson: Beauty in Simplicity. Ariel’s awe at discovering a fork or the feel of a petal reminds us to appreciate the little things, the everyday wonders we often take for granted.
- Lesson: Bonds Beyond Barriers. Ariel and Eric’s tale reinforces the idea that love and understanding can break through even the strongest of preconceptions.
- Lesson: Embracing Understanding. King Triton’s passionate parenting approach struck a chord. It reminded me of the importance of listening, of trying to step into our children’s shoes before we jump to conclusions.
