Original Rating:
MPAA: PG for mild violence and action.
Our 22:6 Flix Take:
Rating: PP (Parent Pick) – While we echo the sentiments about mild violence and action, we’re sprinkling our own mom-filtered insight into the mix. Always looking out for you and yours! 🌟

⚔️ Violence: Intensity Level: Moderate

  • Be ready for some punch-packed sequences! From high-flying kicks to nail-biting narrow escapes from collapsing buildings, the action never lets up. The superheroes whisk civilians to safety just in the nick of time, ensuring adrenaline-filled moments that might have the kids on the edge of their seats.

🔈Language: Intensity Level: Strong

  • While the film generally keeps it light, there is a moment to be cautious of: Spider-Man’s candid advice to Miles’ dad. The mention of “Maybe get off the kid’s a**” might have you raising an eyebrow. There’s also a recurring theme of cataclysmic endings and personal loss which might need some pre-explanation for younger viewers.

❤️ Romance: Intensity Level: Mild

  • Young love is in the air! Miles’ adorable crush on Gwen is evident from the sketches in his book and those heartwarming, lingering gazes. It’s innocent and sweet, sure to make the kids go “aww”.

🌈Inclusive Elements: Intensity Level: Mild/Subtle

  • In Gwen Stacy’s room, observant viewers might catch a glimpse of a trans flag discreetly bearing the words, “Protect trans-kids”. Whether this reflects Gwen’s personal journey or is just a touch of support, it’s an element for audiences to consider in the film’s broader context.

👻 Spooky Elements: Intensity Level: Moderate

  • The ambiance is electric, with Gwen’s early drumming session setting a slightly dark and intense tone. While the villain, The Spot, does throw in some chuckles, his determination to annihilate Mile’s timeline becomes grimly evident as the story progresses.

As a mom, I often ask: What lengths would you go to for the ones you cherish? Dive into this roller-coaster of emotions, gripping action, and some real tear-jerker moments. So, snuggle up on that couch with your family – you’re in for an unforgettable cinematic ride.

Remember when “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse” burst onto our screens in 2018? That buzz? That thrill? The enchantment of Miles Morales’ journey? The sequel is here, and it’s spectacular! But the big question for us parents remain: Is this sequel family-approved?

Our beloved Brooklyn teen, Miles Morales, is back. Only, the regular school life doesn’t quite cut it anymore. Between sneaking glances at Gwen Stacy (his crush!) and juggling the immense responsibility of being Spider-Man, Miles is drawn into a multi-universal adventure brimming with challenges, villains, and introspection.

Theme: Selflessness vs. Personal Desires. Miles confronts a dilemma bigger than any villain – the choice between personal happiness and the greater good. Through his journey, we’re subtly yet powerfully urged to reflect on the essence of heroism.

Overall, we were touched by the profound love Miles has for his family. This love runs so deep that he’s willing to make significant sacrifices for them. We harbor similar feelings for our own family members, especially our children. The movie was a delightful blend of entertainment and action. We found ourselves rooting for Miles as he embarked on his adventures—despite his act of defiance when he left the house grounded—in a quest to protect his family. At the same time, we empathized with the Spider-People and their mission to safeguard everyone. This conflict mirrors dilemmas in the real world, sparking meaningful discussions with older children.

Upon our initial viewing of the movie, we overlooked the presence of the trans flag and its accompanying message. It was only during our second viewing that we became aware of it. If you’re engrossed solely in the film’s action and adventure, such nuances might escape your notice. The movie is brimming with riveting sequences, emotional highs and lows, comedic moments, and superhero clashes, making it easy to overlook subtler details. Yet, these underlying themes resonate with broader global discussions, and we believe it’s crucial to be informed about them before a family movie night. Whether or not your child picks up on these elements, being aware allows you to decide if you want to engage in a conversation about them.”
